PHARMACY

The Kirkland & District Hospital supplies medications to inpatients and registered outpatients of the hospital via a modernized pharmacy department. The department operates in accordance with all legislative and professional standards and consistent with the stated objectives of the Hospital.

The staff of two pharmacists, one full time technician and one part time technician distributes all medication throughout the hospital using a Modified Unit Dose Distribution System. The system is supplemented by limited quantities of ward stock medication. This system allows for safe, efficient and cost effective use of medications. All medications are sealed in an individually labeled single dose packet so that physical handling of the drug is almost negligible until the time it reaches the patient. The pharmacy department also distributes a large volume of injectable medications and mixes chemotherapy drugs on site.
